Youth Programs
The Moon Parks & Recreation Department is looking for talented individuals to who would like to teach classes at the Robin Hill Center. If you would like to share your talents with the community and teach a class, please contact the parks department at 412-262-1703 or email us at info@moonparks.org. All youth program require a participant waiver. If you would like to save some time, you can print one here, and bring with you to class.
There are three ways to register for most of our classes:
- You can sign up in person at the park office.
- You can call the Parks office at 412-262-1703 to pay with credit card.
- You may send in a check to our mailing address with the participants name, date of birth, address, phone and e-mail. You will not be officially registered in the class until you receive a confirmation e-mail.
FITNESS/ATHLETICS
Karate: Adults and Children ages 6 and up
Dates: Now thru May 2012
Days: Mondays and Wednesdays
Times: 6:00 Beginners & 7:00 Advanced
Location: Moon Area High School Wrestling Room
Fee: $45 Moon Residents, Registration is always open. Registration forms call be mailed in or brought to first class.
This is a unique karate system tied together to cover all ranges of self-defense. The classes are led by Ken Wolf along with experienced instructors who hold black belts in Okinawan Kenpo and Wa Shu Maudokwan, as well as experience in Law Enforcement and tournaments.
Zumba for Kids (Ages 8-12)
Dates: Feb 21-March 27 (6 weeks), April 3-May 8 (6 weeks)
Times: 5:00-6:00pm
Location: Robin Hill
Fee: $45 Moon Residents/$50 Non-residents
Instructor: Christina Pales
This is a 6 week class designed for younger participants to have fun while learning good fitness habits early. Zumba fitness is a combination of Latin-based dance moves; salsa, cumbia, soca, flamenco, samba, hiphop and more that will really get you moving. Dance experience is not required. Please bring water.
EDUCATIONAL
Mad Science-Crazy Chem Works (Ages 5-12)
Dates: Tuesdays March 13-April 17 (6 weeks)
Times: 6:00pm-7:00pm
Location: Robin Hill Center
Fee: $75 Moon residents/ $80 non-residents
Shake you a flask of fun in the lab as a junior chemist. This hands-on and interactive program of chemistry for children ages 5-12 is packed solid with cell reactions. Students put on goggles and molecules and pick up some tricks on chemical changes.
Mad Science-System 4: Minerals, Machines, and Movies (Ages 5-12)
Dates: Tuesdays April 24-May 29 (6 weeks)
Time: 6:00-7:00pm
Location: Robin Hill Center
Fee: $75 Moon residents/$80 non-residents
Children will engross themselves in entomology (study of insects) and search for clues to help crack a case. The will have the chance to inspect fluorescing minerals and see how simple machines lighten your load. They will discover why science is the real star of the big screen and move out of the way of motorized toys. Finally, they will stage a statically charged indoor storm and go on a nutrient hunt.
Snapology –Lego Ninjas (Ages 6-12)
Dates:Wednesdays March 14-Apirl 18 (6 weeks)
Time: 6:00-7:00pm
Fee: $75.00/Moon Residents, $80.00/Non-Residents
Sensei Wu needs you! Design a new dojo for Snapology and train your men to battle the best. Go through ninja training and earn your black belt, Snapology-style. Get ready to have fun and become a Master Lego Ninja.

Snapology-Lego Yellow Belts: Machine Madness (Ages 6-12)
Dates: Wednesdays April 25-May 30 (6 weeks)
Time: 6:00-7:00pm
Location: Robin Hill Center
Cost: $75 Moon residents/$80 non-residents
If your child likes to build with Lego bricks-they will love this! Young students build fun and simple models. By playing with and manipulating the models, they experience pulleys, levers, gears, wheels and axles while exploring energy, buoyancy and balance. Shh, don't tell them it's educational!
