Youth Programs

The Moon Parks & Recreation Department is looking for talented individuals to who would like to teach classes at the Robin Hill Center.  If you would like to share your talents with the community and teach a class, please contact the parks department at 412-262-1703 or email us at info@moonparks.org.  All youth program require a participant waiver.  If you would like to save some time, you can print one here, and bring with you to class.

There are three ways to register for most of our classes:

  • You can sign up in person at the park office.
  • You can call the Parks office at 412-262-1703 to pay with credit card.
  • You may send in a check to our mailing address with the participants name, date of birth, address, phone and e-mail. You will not be officially registered in the class until you receive a confirmation e-mail.

Summer Tennis

Junior Beginner (Ages 7-10 & 11-14)

Times: 10:00-11:00am

Times: 11:00am-Noon

Art/Education

Fiddle and Rock Strings Music Workshops (Ages 10-18)

Dates/Times: Monday July 30 1:00-4:00pm

                    or Thursday Aug 16 9:00am-Noon

Location: Robin Hill Center

Cost: $25 Moon residents/$30 non-residents

Instructor: Steven Vance

This workshop is an introduction to fiddle styles by teaching shuffle bowing and double stopping. Participants will learn a few tunes that they will be able to go home and play that night. You will also rock classic tunes with your Yamaha Electric Violin, Viola and Cello, plus sound effects and looping station. At least two years of Violin, Viola or Cello experience is required. Please bring instrument.

Summer Camps

Mad Science (Ages 5-12)

Dates/Times: (NASA) July 9-13, 9am-12pm, *July 13 Fun Day provided by Moon Parks!

                   (Cells, Chem, Crime) August 6-10, 1-4pm, *Aug 10 Fun Day provided by Moon Parks!

Location: Robin Hill Center

Cost: $120 Moon residents/$130 non-residents -per session

Nasa: From Earth's atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system, this hands-on program sends kids on a quest for exploration! Comets, planets, stars and more are all waiting to be discovered. Learn about the four forces of flight, the challenges of space travel, and participate in a rocket launch!

Cells, Chem, Crime: Campers examine a mock crime scene and survey the contents of a cell in this interactive journey into the wonders of science. This hands-on program sends kids on a quest to discover the world around us as they explore DNA, learn about their senses and test the elements of electricity. A mock crime scene is explored using scientific methods and their forensic skills.

Snapology (Ages 5-12)

               (Lego Wizards/Harry Potter) August 6-10, 9am-12pm, *Aug 10 Fun Day provided by Moon Parks!

Star Wars: Star Wars, Star Wars, and more Star Wars! If you love Star Wars, this is the camp for you. Come participate in Star Wars themed activities, build scenes from the move, ships, lightsabers, you name it...may the force be with you...

Lego Wizards/Harry Potter: Enter the magical world of Harry Potter, Snapology style! Make your own coat of arms, create your own Lego castle, attend a potions class, and much much more! Let the magic begin!

*If a participant registers for both a morning and afternoon session of Mad Science and Snapology in the same week, Moon Parks will provide supervision between sessions (Noon-1pm). Participants must bring a brown-bag lunch.

US Sports Multi Sports Camp (Ages 5-14)

Dates: July 16-20

Times: Full Day (9am-4pm), Half Day Am (9am-12:30pm), Half Day Pm (1-4pm)

Location: Moon Park

Cost: Full Day $165, Half Day Am $145, Half Day Pm $130

Registration Deadline: July 3, 2012

Give your child a unique opportunity to experience 15 different sports from around the world. Children can learn how to bowl a Cricket ball, score a try in Rugby, Shoot hoops and score plenty of goals in a variety of sports from around the world. All activities and games take place in a positive low pressure educational environment under the guidance of our qualified coaches who are chosen for their ability to inspire, motivate and encourage campers. Full Day participants should being brown-bag lunch.

US Sports Squirts Camp (Ages 3-5)

Dates: July 16-20

Time: 4:30-5:30pm

Location: Moon Park

Cost: $85

Registration Deadline: July 3, 2012

This is a great way to introduce children ages 3-5 to a variety of sports such as soccer, T-ball, Basket ball, Hockey and Lacrosse. Sessions take place in a safe, structured environment and sports and played through a series of games and activities designed to ensure learning and most importantly FUN FUN FUN!

Western PA Baseball Camp (Ages 7-14)

Dates: June 18-22 and June 25-29

Times: 9am-3pm

Location: Moon Park Baseball Fields

Cost: $150/per week

Moon Parks and Recreation is proud to "team up" with Moon's legendary baseball coach, Ray Bosetti, for this instructional baseball camp. Players should dress for the weather and bring their own glove, bats (optional), waterbottles and hats. Players should bring a lunch every day but Friday (Pizza Party). Players receive free camp T-Shirt and certificate of attendance. Coach Bosetti and his staff will instruct the fundamentals of the game: base running, throwing, hitting, fielding, bunting, sliding, pitching, & catching.
