Parks & Recreation Overview
The Moon Township Parks &
Recreation Department offers residents a diverse array of social, cultural and
athletic programs throughout the year.
With a strong emphasis on maintaining “green space” in the community,
the Parks & Recreation Department oversees over 600 acres of park space
including the 300+ acre Moon Park, Robin Hill Park with over 200 acres, and Olson Park & Boggs School with over 100 acres.
Additionally, Moon park system includes five playlots throughout the community
featuring a variety of playground equipment.
Throughout Moon’s ample park space, residents can enjoy such amenities as walking/hiking trails, the ARL
Amphitheater, play equipment, soccer fields, baseball/softball fields,
basketball courts, tennis courts, a deck hockey court, several sand volleyball
courts, numerous picnic shelters, an herb garden, and tour authentic homes
including a log home and a Georgian-style home with Carriage House serving as
the Moon Township Senior Citizen’s Center.
With a mission of enhancing the
quality of life for Moon residents, the Parks & Recreation Department also
offers numerous free or low cost events to Township residents. Some of these exciting programs include athletic
tournaments, a variety of extra-curricular classes, and community-wide
celebrations such as a Halloween Parade, Independence Day Celebration, Earth
Day Celebration, Easter Bunny Trail and its newest program – Family Fun
Night.
Moon Family Fun Night is an exciting new program to be held every Friday in Moon Park. Friday night throughout the summer months at the ARL Amphitheater can bring
their families for a wonderful night out and enjoy a great selection of movies
and/or concerts along with refreshments.
If all of this activity isn't
enough, Moon Township is just minutes away from Pittsburgh’s numerous recreational, cultural and social
opportunities. Exciting nightlife,
popular cultural events and premiere sports teams are all nearby Moon Township. And, if outdoor
activities are more your style, ample areas for fishing, camping, boating and
more are all in close proximity to Moon.
